Australian gunned down in Angeles City

Got this news from a friend.

I see that an Australian has been gunned down in Angeles City in the Philippines. The story reported in the Sun Herald reports that the guy had a successful business there. At the end of the day doesn't it just become about money. Maybe he wasn't prepared to pay kickbacks to the local authorities. Anyway, it is far better for all concerned to avoid Angeles City, since its mostly prostitution and drugs. I don't think it need to reflect on the rest of the country.

Foreigners aren't really targets of kidnapping in Philippines. Just that a lot of foreigners are usually conspicuous and a bit arrogant so they become a hot item to kidnappers.

Does that not suggest that they are targeted. You can't so readily distinguish a rich from poor Filipino, but the assumption of being a wealthy, old foreigner in the Philippines might get you seeing the wrong side of a gun. Fortunately its a rare occurrence outside those hotspots like Manila, Angeles City, Puerto Galera, Cebu, Boracay. Also foreigners in a foreign country might be more inclined to let any incident go. I mostly dress worse than foreigners. Shorts and thongs :) smile
