I think there is a tendency for parents to adopt a reactive stance to parenting. That is they service the needs of the child as they become apparent. eg. Child needs lunch money, they service the need. Child is unruly, apply discipline. The problem I have with this approach is that: 1. Its reactive 2. It lacks an integrated, planned strategy 3. It lacks consideration of the long term needs of the child 4. It lacks recognition of the parental need for guidance 5. It lacks the communication of values
